Two Chinese Tyre Pyrolysis Plants Shipped to Mozambique, Boosting Circular Economy in Africa

2026-01-24

On January 23, 2026, two sets of environmentally friendly tyre pyrolysis plants developed and manufactured by Lefilter  were officially shipped to Mozambique. These exported tyre pyrolysis plants adopt advanced pyrolysis technology to realize the resource recycling of waste tyres, which will not only alleviate Mozambique’s solid waste disposal pressure but also supply clean energy to the local area, marking a substantial step forward in China-Mozambique cooperation in the circular economy sector.

According to the technical director of Lefilter, the two shipped tyre pyrolysis plants are integral tyre direct-feed  pyrolysis systems, with multiple core technological advantages.

Equipped with a hydraulic feeder, each tyre pyrolysis plant can directly process cut waste tyres without prior crushing—simplifying the technological process, reducing labor costs, and avoiding the difficulty of recycling steel wires embedded in tyres after crushing. Via the hydraulic feeder, tyres can be fully heated and pyrolyzed in the reactor, with an oil recovery rate of over 40%.

As a developing country in southeastern Africa, Mozambique has seen rapid development in industry and transportation in recent years, with annual waste tyre emissions rising year by year. Traditional landfilling and incineration methods not only pollute the environment but also result in energy waste. Data from local environmental protection departments shows that Mozambique generates more than 100,000 tons of waste tyres annually, with an effective treatment rate of less than 20%, urgently requiring efficient and eco-friendly recycling solutions. The imported tyre pyrolysis plants have a daily processing capacity of over 15 tons per set; after commissioning, the two sets of equipment can handle up to 10,000 tons of waste tyres annually, significantly improving the comprehensive utilization rate of local waste tyres.

"These two sets of tyre pyrolysis plants are important achievements of China-Mozambique environmental cooperation and will provide key support for Mozambique to build a resource recycling system," said an official. After putting into operation, the tyre pyrolysis plants can convert waste tyres into renewable resources such as fuel oil, carbon black, and steel wires. Among them, fuel oil can be supplied to local enterprises like brick factories and cement plants, while carbon black and steel wires can be further processed and sold, forming a complete industrial chain closed loop. This cooperation model can not only help Mozambique reduce its dependence on imported fuel but also create a large number of jobs, promoting the green transformation of the local economy.

In recent years, Lifierte tyre pyrolysis plants have witnessed growing demand in overseas markets due to their technological advantages and high cost performance, with countries along the "Belt and Road" becoming major export destinations. The export of these tyre pyrolysis plants to Mozambique not only demonstrates Lifierte’s strength in the environmental protection equipment manufacturing industry but also lays a foundation for Chinese enterprises to explore the African circular economy market.

An official from Mozambique's Ministry of Environment stated that they look forward to taking this cooperation as an opportunity to deepen cooperation with China in environmental protection technology, resource recycling and other fields, learn from China's experience in circular economy development, and promote a win-win situation between ecological protection and economic development in Mozambique. It is expected that the two sets of tyre pyrolysis plants will arrive in Mozambique in March 2026, complete installation and commissioning, and be officially put into operation in June.
