Material Selection for Square Groove Riding Rings

The core principle for selecting materials of square groove riding rings is to match the working condition parameters and economic requirements of the pyrolysis furnace. Accurate selection can be made following the steps and principles below:

1. First Clarify the Core Working Condition Parameters

Operating Temperature

≤350℃: Prioritize HT250 gray cast iron (low cost) or QT450-10 ductile iron (better toughness)

350–600℃: Select ZG35CrMo or ZG42CrMo cast steel (for medium temperature and medium load)

600–800℃: Choose ZG309S heat-resistant stainless steel casting (high-temperature oxidation resistance)

800–1100℃: Opt for ZG40Cr25Ni20 heat-resistant cast steel or Inconel alloy (for ultra-high temperature)

Load Intensity

Light load (small test furnaces): HT250 gray cast iron, QT450-10 ductile iron

Medium load (conventional pyrolysis furnaces): ZG35CrMo cast steel

Heavy load (large continuous pyrolysis furnaces): ZG42CrMo cast steel, ZG40Cr25Ni20 heat-resistant cast steel

Corrosive Environment

Conditions with oil vapor and sulfides: Prioritize ZG309S, ZG40Cr25Ni20 or Inconel alloy (corrosion resistance)

Dry environment without strong corrosion: ZG35CrMo or ZG42CrMo cast steel is sufficient

2. Combine Equipment Type and Economy

Small test furnaces / low temperature & light load: Select HT250 gray cast iron or QT450-10 ductile iron (lowest cost)

Small and medium conventional pyrolysis furnaces / medium temperature & medium load: Choose ZG35CrMo cast steel (high cost performance)

Large continuous pyrolysis furnaces / heavy load & high frequency operation: Opt for ZG42CrMo cast steel (balances strength and wear resistance)

Ultra-high temperature / strong corrosion conditions: Select ZG40Cr25Ni20 or Inconel alloy (performance first, relatively high cost)

3. Supplementary Notes for Special Scenarios

If the furnace body involves frequent start-stop or impact loads: Prioritize ZG42CrMo cast steel with better toughness to avoid brittle fracture

If long-term continuous operation is required: Choose ZG40Cr25Ni20 or Inconel alloy with stronger creep resistance to reduce deformation risks
