The Water In The Water Seal Tank Must Be Replaced Regularly

2026-01-21

The water in the water seal tank must be replaced regularly and cannot be recycled for a long time. The specific reasons and replacement requirements are as follows:

Core Reasons for Regular Water Replacement

Oil contaminants, dust, and other impurities carried by the cracked non-condensable gas will continuously accumulate in the water seal water, resulting in gradual deterioration of water quality. On the one hand, oil contaminants will form an oil film on the water surface, damaging the sealing effect of the water layer and weakening the backfire blocking capacity. On the other hand, dust sedimentation will cause water turbidity and an increase in impurity content, which is likely to block pipelines and blowdown ports, and also accelerate the corrosion of the tank body and pipelines. In addition, corrosive gases such as hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen chloride in the non-condensable gas will dissolve in the water to form acidic solutions; failure to replace the water for a long time will significantly increase the corrosion rate of the equipment.

Water Replacement Cycle and Operational Requirements

The water replacement cycle shall be adjusted according to the operating conditions of the equipment: under the regular operating conditions of batch-type thermal cracking oil refining equipment, it is recommended to replace the water every 3–7 days; if the raw material has a high impurity content and the produced gas contains a large proportion of oil contaminants and corrosive gases, the replacement cycle shall be shortened to once every 1–3 days.

During replacement, it is necessary to first drain the sewage in the tank, clean up the oil sludge and sediment deposited at the bottom of the tank, then inject clean tap water or softened water, and adjust the water level to the set value at the same time to ensure the water seal effect.
